Student of the Year's "The Disco Song" sets feet tapping!

The phrase "traditional party song" has been nothing more than an oxymoron, until now. For his upcoming film, director-producer Karan Johar has included the song "Radha". A traditional song-turned-club-thumper of sorts, "Radha" was unveiled just recently, on the 26th of September, 2012. In the video, the movie's primary cast including Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan are clad in ethnic wear and are seen dancing to the track's catchy beats. With a traditional groove to it, "Radha' has vocals by Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani, Udit Narayan and gives the movie's soundtrack a little versatility.

As always, Karan Johar wanted his upcoming film's first song to be a punchy number, and had the video where one can Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt shaking their leg to the tune. The song sports portions of the late Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan's Disco Deewane released in 1981. A pop number produced by Indian producer Biddu, the song went on to break sales records in South-East Asia, selling nearly 1,00,000 records within a day.

As for his upcoming movie titled Student of the Year, Karan Johar has put Vishal-Shekhar's expertise to use. The film starring newcomers Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt features an interesting soundtrack that's bound to have you engrossed all along. With lyrics penned down by Anvita Dutt Guptan, the movie's soundtrack sports an assortment of music styles. While "Ishq Wala Love" shoulders towards the romantic side, sung by Shekhar Ravjiani, Salim Merchant, Neeti Mohan, the "Disco Song" is a reworked version of Disco Deewane sung by Benny Dayal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Nazia Hassan. And that's not all. The soundtrack also includes "Vele", a mix of Bhangra and HipHop, a song that's crafted for discotheques.

The movie will mark the debut of model-turned-actor Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. Alia Bhatt is the daughter of director Mahesh Bhatt while Varun Dhawan is the son of director David Dhawan. The trio plays the role of students in an extravagant school participating in a competition, each battling it out to get their hands on the prestigious Student of the Year Trophy. The film is in essence a campus romance that portrays the ups and downs of a teenage life.

Student of the Year is Karan Johar's fifth directorial venture after his first Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), followed by Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006) and My Name Is Khan (2010). The film is also Karan Johar's first without his lucky mascot and buddy Shah Rukh Khan, who has made an appearance in all the movies previously directed by the filmmaker. He's played the role of an assistant director for Karan Johar before, and as the Bollywood industry makes way for a new tide of fresh new faces, Sidharth Malhotra readies himself for a promising career on screen. To make his debut in Karan Johar's fifth, Student of the Year, Siddharth Malhotra will share screen space with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

Born on the 31st of December 1987 in Gujarat, Sidharth moved to Mumbai with his family. The son of Dr. Rajeev Malhotra and Leena Malhotra, a school principal, young Sidharth completed his education at St. Xavier's School in Mumbai. Family is a major theme in the artist's work, as are friends. One series of encaustic work is called 'Portraits of Friends and Family' and features images taken spontaneously. Another series consists of family photographs that she printed on canvas. In each image, she placed the family members against a backdrop of a house. She then added memorabilia to personalize the image and fused everything in encaustic pigment to create brightly-colored, deeply personal pictures. This series is called the 'House Collage Series'.

Another series themed around Barbara's family is the series of fifty 'Portraits in Wood'. For this she made black-and-white photo negatives of family portraits and yearbook pictures of members of her family. Then she printed the images on emulsion-coated wood. The addition of oil paints added color, while carving into the wood created texture to make the pictures seem alive.

A series of simple, traditional silver gelatin prints resulted after a dare from a friend, who challenged Barbara to do black-and-white photographs. Columbus, Ohio was the subject and Barbara managed to create beautiful portraits of her hometown with its people. This inspired another series that captures the United States along a 2,209-mile highway known as US Route 1. The highway stretches from Fort Kent in Maine to Key West, Florida, so the abundance of pictures capture a richly diverse country.

Barbara has held many exhibitions of her work, mainly around Ohio and including a solo show at the Springfield Museum of Art in 2011. Her work has been receiving rave reviews and she has won numerous awards. One of the most recent was being awarded a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. The Ohion Arts Council sponsors this.

There will be two exhibitions of Barb Vogel's art in Ohio in 2013. The Ross Museum in Delaware will present 'Diverse' in March. This show will include works by seven female artists.
