Burning Spear music is one of the most inspiring and respected roots songs in Jamaica and even to the entire world. Burning spear, also known as Winston Rodney, has made a record of classic reggae albums over the years. Rodney is partly a preacher since he spreads positive messages in his songs inspiring people to remain clean in their ways. This man can also be viewed as a black historian who encourages Africans and keeps reminding them of their heroes who fought for their rights.
Rodney began his music career after an encounter with Bob Marley who advised him to enroll in studio one where he could record tracks. Winston and his partner, Rupert Willington, auditioned three songs which were named as Door peep. Soon after the album landed in the shops, he recruited Delroy Hinds to their group. Rodney later released a string of singles on studio one as the vocalist of the group.
The lines in his music are full of emotions as they talk about oppression of the poor. He encourages people to have self reliance and determination as the key characteristics. His tracks have a sense of holiness and dwell so much on cultural themes thereby passing good morals to all who listen his music.
Both the slavery days and Marcus Garvey tracks were released after spear and his band members joined forces with producer Jack Ruby. A full album by the name Marcus Garvey was later released and it turned out to be the highly rated that Jamaica has ever released. Later Rodney joined the island label and continued with his career.
Time was now due that he establishes his own recording label. This was to help him maintain his position and stability in the music industry. He immediately released a single titled Travelling then followed by two other titled The Youth quickly and Spear Burning. Man in the Hill was also released in the 1970s. It was mainly revolving around rural themes.
Rodney parted ways with the other two members of the band. When releasing the song called Dry and Heavy, he had no company. He merged his label to another known one known as EMI. It was after the merging that he did H. I. M. At the very first studio where he had began. He then started singing songs that were not cultural oriented. Here, he did a song that he named She is mine.
Resistance was preceded by fittest of the fittest and was voted for the Grammy Awards. People of the world was a song done after he had signed another recording contract with Independent Slash brand. It did well and received the nomination as well. During the late eighties, the song titled Mistress was completed. This particular one never did well in the market because it was poorly produced. This was countered by another album called Live Paris in the same year.
After a European tour, Winston returned to the island label and did a wonderful track there by the name Mek We Dweet. Rodney is now well known internationally as a roots reggae producer for he has done great tracks which have earned him popularity to reggae fans. All Burning Spear music talk about real life experiences and he communicates to people through them.
