Looking At Modern Impressionist Artists More Closely

The world of painting was boring and monotonous with traditional and rigid forms until the arrival of modern impressionist artists. They began in Paris in the 1860s but their effect did not take long to spread to other parts of the world. They defied traditional procedures of producing fine and detailed paints. Instead, they sought to try and bring on canvasses temporary and sensory views.

Their objects were made to appear to the eye in a fleeting instant. To successfully achieve this, many of them moved away from the studio to the streets and countryside. Theirs was a style of representation that did not actually depend on realistic descriptions.

Optical effects of light were employed to try and paint a picture of the passing time, changes in weather, climatic and other shifts in the atmosphere. By using canvas as their primary material, these painters achieved a lot. To come up with successful paintings, they used slackened works of brush. Pure and strong colors could only be used from bleached palettes.

Besides, they also persisted on expressing the all-purpose view of a particular sight from the outside environment. Reflected light was used as a representation of primary colors through short strokes of brushes. Capturing the sight of the subject instead of the subject itself was what they strived to.

Painters also got away from concentrating only on the key subject and brought the surrounding environment and objects more outstandingly into the masterpiece of the painting. Preliminary paint was no longer given time to dry. Instead, fresher pain application was done while the preceding paint was still wet. What came out were soft edges. Besides, colors were allowed to mix more naturally on the canvas.

Not long after painters had taken a different turn, music composers also adopted this new stance. Traditional forms of music composition were shied away from. In its place, discordant chords and varying arrangements were employed to express personal feelings and moods. Through this new system, musicians got a chance to suggest their own moods and places by using indistinguishable rhythms and vigorous, altering harmonies. What they composed attempted to produce diagrammatic descriptions. To do this, they required suggestions on light and color by alerting pitch, tone and rhythm.

As time went by, writers and poets also began borrowing this idea by using imagery and symbolism to convey their thoughts. They did this instead of using the usual intentional characteristics of some events and objects. Their style of writing centered on the mental life of the characters by watching their sensations rather than deducing their experiences. Poetry, on the hand, invoked an answer to an occasion or theme instead of recounting the real feelings that are evoked.

Impressionism made way for a wider and more open way of looking at art universally. People were now more confident to convey their own visualizations in their work and were also free to try out with long-established forms. Due to this, things have evolved over the years, becoming as diverse and ground-breaking as the world around them.

There is no doubt that modern impressionist artists were the revolutionists behind present day art. They did not just influence painting alone but they also breathed a new fire in music and writing. Their action was a blessing to the world as a whole.
